About this event

Learn how to forage from native plants safely and ethically as we hike. We’ll highlight “in-season” species.

What to expect: Come learn about food-bearing native plants with certified forager Ranger Eliza and trained forager Ranger Karsten! Learn how to forage safely and ethically and hit the trails with us as we highlight some “in-season” species. We’ll also provide some tips on preparing foraged foods into delicious dishes! The full program lasts 2 hours. Please wear close-toed shoes and long pants for our time on the trail.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Eliza Crofts, an Arabia Alliance Roving Ranger, and Ranger Karsten Bobb, a DeKalb County Park Ranger at Arabia Mountain.

Where to meet: Meet us inside the Nature Center (3787 Klondike Rd.).

What to bring: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and outdoor hiking shoes. We will hike about 2 miles. Please bring your own water and any snacks you might need to stay energized and hydrated throughout the program. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection, as well as insect repellent to keep the bugs at bay.
